CT History in Colonial Times & Beyond (Lecture 1)
March 1, 2022 @ 6:00 pm – 8:30 pm
The Sharon Historical Society is partnering with EdAdvance to promote adult education! In this two-part course (taught by Curator Brandon Lisi), students will survey milestones in Connecticut’s history from the colonial period to the mid-19th century. Classes will be held at the historical society and on Zoom. To register, please visit EdAdvance’s course catalog.
This lecture will cover the founding of Connecticut in c.1636 through the American Revolution (1775-1783) – it will discuss political, economic, and social developments in the colony over the course of 150 years. It will also include a presentation on criminal justice in Connecticut, specifically with the example of Old New-Gate Prison in East Granby, CT (operated from 1773-1827). A few minutes at the beginning of this lecture will be dedicated to an examination of how historians approach the task of historical study (such as how one determines historic truth, and the relationship between history and philosophy).
