Lecture and Annual Meeting

April 13 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

The Sharon Historical Society and Museum (SHSM) will be hosting its annual meeting and free public lecture on Saturday, April 13, 2024. The meeting will begin at 10am at the SHSM building at 18 Main Street in Sharon with the lecture, To Certain Western Lands: Connecticut Stories from the Western Reserve, immediately following.

After the American Revolution, Connecticut gave most of its claimed western lands over to the new American government, but it “reserved” a piece in the northeast of present-day Ohio for its continued use and settlement. This became the Connecticut Western Reserve, also known as “New Connecticut.” Alex Dubois, Curator of Collections for the Litchfield Historical Society, will share stories of Connecticut residents involved in and affected by westward migration to Ohio lands, including Sharon native and surveyor Amos Spafford.

Join us for this enlightening talk about the connections between Connecticut and Ohio. No registration required, admittance is free.
