Historical Exhibit
Creating an Oasis at Wethersfield: Mrs. Poehler and Mr. Stillman
Opening Reception: Friday, June 14, 5-7pm

The exhibit, in partnership with Wethersfield Estate and Garden, explores the relationship between Evelyn Poehler, a Sharon-based landscape architect, and Chauncey Stillman. Mr. Stillman hired Mrs. Poehler in the 1950s to create the beautiful gardens at Wethersfield, his home in Amenia, New York. Throughout their decades long collaboration, numerous correspondences were exchanged and the depth of these letters, drawings, and notations in the archives at Wethersfield Estate and Garden provide a treasure trove of information. The exhibit immerses visitors in the garden and introduces them to an often-overlooked pioneering landscape architect from Sharon.
