About the Gay-Hoyt House

The Gay-Hoyt House, owned and administered by the Sharon Historical Society & Museum, is open free of charge during regular hours to the public. Tours of the house are self-guided. Collections include American furniture from colonial to colonial revival; decorative arts, iron and iron-industry related artifacts, five portraits by folk artist Ammi Phillips, a library featuring a collection of CT history and decorative arts resources and  an archives/photo collection.

In addition to our collections, the Gay-Hoyt House engages our visitors and promotes our mission to connect people to the town of Sharon, its history and its culture via a History Discovery Room for students, an Art Exhibit Hall for local artists, and an Internet Access/Reading Room Cafe which is available to the public Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 1 2 p.m to 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.  to 2 p.m. or by appointment.

If you’re interested in touring the Gay-Hoyt house, we encourage you to plan your visit. Please do not hesitate to contact us. We would love to have you!

In addition to our usual collections, the Sharon Historical Society & Museum regularly features special exhibits highlighting particularly interesting aspects of Sharon’s History. Such past topics have included the churches of Sharon, the Sharon green, the Sharon Hospital, Emily Winthrop Miles and others. Art Gallery

Another way that the Sharon Historical Society & Museum connects people to the culture of Sharon is by displaying the work of local artists. At any given time, you’ll find the walls of the Art Exhibit Hall of the Gay-Hoyt house lined with the work of talented painters, illustrators, and artists of all types. From time to time we even host exclusive walkthroughs with the artists, so you can get an inside perspective to their art. Visit our Art Gallery page to learn more about past or current featured artists and take a look at our events calendar to see when our next gallery event is.
